ABSTRACT

In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to calculate the active thrust on retaining walls when the backfill is cohesionless and subject to a uniformly distributed and generally inclined surcharge. A simplified and sufficiently approximate procedure is also proposed to calculate the point of application of the thrust.
