Joshua R. Omer is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Glamorgan, UK, where he specializes in Foundation Engineering and Numerical modelling. He is presently active in research into the loaded behaviour of piled foundations, application of in-situ and laboratory tests to pile capacity prediction and development of interactive software for complete pile analysis, including load-settlement prediction. He has published a large number of technical papers in journals and conferences. His teaching interests are in Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental and Structural Engineering design and in addition, he has recently carried out internal consultancy projects in materials testing for various clients in the UK. In 2001, Dr Omer was one of only eight individuals in the UK to win the prestigious Industry Fellowships of the Royal Society. He has held a Research & Development enabling grant of the Institution of Civil Engineers and was the winner of the inaugural David Douglas prize awarded by the South Wales Institute of Engineers. Dr Omer won a commonwealth scholarship for his doctoral studies.
