Dr Abbas Soroush is an assistant professor and head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He received his PhD degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada in 1996. Dr. Soroush’s research interests cover a wide range of subjects in geotechnical engineering, including numerical modelling of granular media, numerical modelling and analysis of behaviours of earth dams, tunnels, and slopes, and laboratory studies on erosion properties of soils and filter for earth dams. He has published over 45 technical papers in journals and conferences. Dr. Soroush teaches a number of courses including Foundation Engineering, Earth Dams (in undergraduate level); Advanced Soil Mechanics, Finite Elements, Earth Dams, Continuum Mechanics and Soil Plasticity (in graduate level). He is also active in establishing consultancy and research relationships with the industry, particularly with the dam design and construction industry. Dr. Soroush has been as a member of a number of International Review Experts Panels for reviewing several hydro-electric dam projects in Iran.
