          Formation of the Geotechnical Engineering Markup Language
                       (GML) Steering/Working Group


Status of this Document

   This memo proposes that concerted international efforts be made in order 
to establish standards and protocols for computer processing of geotechnical
engineering data, especially the storage, access, and transfer operations.
Distribution of this memo is unlimited.

Abstract

   This memo is a call for comments from the members of the World Wide Web of 
Geotechnical Engineers, W3G (see RFC-G001).

This document announces the formation of a Steering - Working Group for establishing 
a markup language for storage and transfer of geotechnical engineering data. 

It is proposed that the Group include mainly representatives of the geotechnical 
software companies and others interested in geotechnical engineering research 
and development in the areas of analysis and computer applications.
